Physical description

Poppies have lobed or dissected leaves and milky sap. The buds are often nodding and are borne on solitary stalks. The flowers have four to six petals with numerous stamens surrounding the ovary. The two sepals usually drop off as the petals unfold. The ovary develops into a spherical capsule topped by a disk formed by the stigmas. The many small seeds escape from pores beneath the disk when the capsule is shaken by the wind.

The poppy family is well represented in western North America, with at least 13 genera. California is particularly rich in native species. The best known of these is the California poppy (Eschscholzia californica), an annual with brilliant orange-coloured flowers that is extensively naturalized in California, Australia, and India.

Other ornamental members of the poppy family include the Matilija poppy (Romneya coulteri), with 15-cm (6-inch) fragrant white flowers on a 2.4-metre- (7.9-foot-) tall perennial herbaceous plant native to southwestern North America; the plume poppies, members of the Asian genus Macleaya, grown for their interestingly lobed giant leaves and 2-metre- (6.6-foot-) tall flower spikes; plants of the genus Bocconia, mild-climate woody shrubs native to tropical America, prized for their large cut leaves; the snow poppy (Eomecon chionantha), a perennial from China, with white cuplike flowers in sprays; and the flaming poppy (Stylomecon heterophylla), with purple-centred brick-red flowers on an annual plant from western North America.     I received my order yesterday. As a heads-up to everyone asking, they ship from the UK via FedEx International Priority Express. I received my package on Monday, July 3rd at around 11AM, which is fairly early given where I live. I ordered 1KG Monday the 26th and the quality is very good. The pods were unbroken and not overly weighed down with seeds like some decorative flower pods I’ve gotten elsewhere. They’re beautifully tan and shiny in color, almost polished looking. However, the only downside is the price is high considering other viable options in the UK but worth it, and they appear to ship only on Fridays and Mondays, which is understandable given that they have only 1 to 2 employees from my research while waiting for any info, which I did get via the shipping information late Thursday and it was in the US by Saturday morning and cleared to move to my destination Sunday evening, which it did. They are definitely “Grade A” in quality and I’d recommend these beauties to anyone looking. I’ve read of others having delays in shipment of up to a month but mine went smoothly after 3 days of no answers to emails or contact us, and as well all know the WhatsApp chat is a disconnected number, so don’t expect support. I put 5 stars for quality but for price point and communications I give 2.5 and 1 Star respectively. However, I am willing to purchase from here again in the future. I only ask that you try to answer emails from customers who have made purchases or put a message somewhere on the product pages that you only ship on certain days. That would be most helpful. Thank you Mr. Marwaha and Son.
